Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach stated.

“It's important to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He added, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction

Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with performances this poor.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
