New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”

New York police released surveillance images Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was transported to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
