Paceman Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field early on day two in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The pace bowler pulled up with his left leg after the final ball in his spell at the MCG.

Team management stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time away from the action to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts this coming Sunday.

The visitors have previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 with the bat being one of only three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he returned for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of the fifth over, he delivered a change of pace to the batsman and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test having missed of the third.
