Six Arrested Following €12 Million Robbery on Gold Refining Lab in the French Republic

A team of six suspects carrying high-powered firearms used explosive devices to break into a gold treatment facility located in the city of Lyon, slightly injuring five employees during described as the most recent prominent daylight theft to affect the country.

The daring raid took place on Thursday afternoon, with officers rapidly detaining the individuals believed responsible and securing the stolen items valued at approximately 12 million euros (£10.5M), according to officials.

Five workers of the gold refining company received light wounds due to the explosion, and three of them required hospital checks for assessment, according to regional authorities. A total of twenty-eight staff were inside the facility when the thieves struck.

Those arrested, thought to be seasoned offenders, were arrested a brief time later in the adjacent municipality of Vénissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.

A female participant who took part in the heist was likewise arrested, according to law enforcement.

“Six people who utilized explosives in an attack on a gold refining facility in Lyon, France were arrested at the scene,” the French interior minister declared on social media, commending law enforcement for their “firmness, rapid response and command”.

Military-style weapons, pistols and explosive materials were recovered as well.

The heist took place as law enforcement in France on the same day detained five further people, among them a key figure, in relation to this month's brazen Louvre museum robbery.

Numerous detectives have been hunting four perpetrators who employed a truck with a hydraulic lift and cutting gear to break into an upper-level exhibition space at the prestigious institution on 19 October, escaping with precious items estimated to be worth 88 million euros.

In another notable incident, burglars recently broke into the French capital's Natural History Museum, making off with gold samples worth over $1 million. A woman from China, aged 24 was taken into custody recently in Barcelona in relation to the burglary, prosecutors stated.

The string of thefts has raised concerns in the nation regarding lax security at cultural venues and other facilities holding high-value objects.
