The Lionesses face the Chinese team – Women’s Friendly Match

Overview

Hello and welcome to the friendly fixture between England and China at London’s Wembley. An exciting encounter is anticipated with the European Championship holders competing against the holders of the Asian Cup title.

England’s national stadium is sold-out for the occasion, which will see the celebrated Fran Kirby recognized pre-match after her retirement from the national team before the Euro tournament this past summer.

Squad announcements will be revealed soon, but there was a late squad update for England. On Friday, Khiara Keating withdrew from the squad with a small issue, and so ex-first choice Ellie Roebuck has been added to the squad.

With Hannah Hampton injured, it will be interesting to see who head coach Sarina Wiegman selects in goal. That news and all the other updates are incoming before kick-off at 5.30pm GMT.

Lineup Announcements

The team news is in. Anna Moorhouse will be the goalkeeper for England in the absence of Hannah Hampton and Khiara Keating.

The Lionesses: Moorhouse, Bronze, Charles, Walsh, Le Tissier, Morgan, Mead, Stanway, Russo, Toone, Hemp.

Reserves: Hings, Baggaley, Kendall, Wubben-Moy, Beever-Jones, Kelly, Kearns, Park, Blindkilde Brown, Roebuck, Clinton, Denton, Fisk, Godfrey.

Details are being sought for China’s team news now; when it comes through, I will post it.

Captaincy Update

Keira Walsh is captaining the Lionesses with Leah Williamson still sidelined. These were her comments before this clash:

First Cap News

The upcoming fixture will be Anna Moorhouse’s debut for England. She was a part of the Euro-winning side who won this past summer, but she remained on the bench with Hannah Hampton in the starting goalkeeper role.
