This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
